2026 Incidents
7/17/26 - Newark 2nd Alarm
At 20:00 the Newark Fire Department dispatched a full assignment to 801 Summer Ave for a report of a house on fire. At 20:40 the Newark Fire Department alerted the County of the incident, initially reports of people trapped inside. Battalion 3 reported a 2 1/2 story frame with fire showing, line being stretched. They requested NPD to the scene for traffic control. Additional units arrived on the scene. At 20:07 command advised they had water on the fire. Crews were having problems with water pressure. At 20:10 Deputy 1 assumed command and reported fire on the Delta and Bravo side and possible exposure problems. A second alarm was declared shortly after. At 20:11 a primary search on the first division was complete and negative. At 20:13 Deputy 1 was command, Battalion 3 the operations chief, Battalion 1 the interior operations chief, Battalion 2 the safety officer and battalion 5 the exposure chief. Second alarm units were directed to the command post. At 20:56 the incident was placed under control, a PAR check was completed and all companies had PAR. At 20:48 a Bloomfield Engine and Montclair Truck were dispatched for the cover assignment. Additionally a South Essex Engine, Millburn Engine and Irvington truck were dispatched moments later. Command reported extensive overhaul. Montclair was unable to provide a truck company, Nutley was dispatched in its place. By 21:01-21:09 all units were on coverage in Newark. At 21:51 South Essex, Millburn and Irvington units were released from coverage. At 22:35 Bloomfield and Nutley were released. 21 adults and 5 children were displaced along with 5 dogs unfortunately passing away.
